Antoine Petit, CEO of CNRS, visited Singapore and Indonesia in July 2024.
During his visit in Singapore, he attended the CREATE symposium 2024 and CREATE Governing Council meeting. He was also invited to the Istana by Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to discuss the “future of AI”.
After Singapore, Antoine Petit went to Jakarta the 24th of July, where he signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the CNRS and the BRIN. The French Embassy in Indonesia organized several visits for CNRS to meet Indonesian or Asian potential partners. During these visits, Antoine Petit was accompanied by the Scientific cooperation division of the French Embassy and the Representative Office in ASEAN.
Antoine Petit was first invited by the French Ambassador to Indonesia, Timor-Leste and ASEAN, Fabien Penone, to a cocktail reception with the Indonesian scientific community. This reception was the opportunity for Antoine Petit to meet representatives from the BRIN and from several Indonesian universities collaborating with researchers from CNRS. Fabien Penone and Antoine Petit expressed the importance of the French-Indonesian collaboration and of the mobility of researchers between the two countries.
Antoine Petit then went to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology and met with Anindito Aditomo, Head of Agency for Standardization, Curriculum, and Assessment in Education, and Oktavian Haryanto, Special Advisor to the Minister on Innovation.
The CEO of CNRS was invited to Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) by its Chairman, Laksana Tri Handoko. After discussing about common priorities in terms of areas of scientific cooperation, they signed a Memorandum of Understanding between CNRS and BRIN. This MoU is a major milestone marking the institutional collaboration between the two national research agencies.
Both BRIN and CNRS are willing to develop more common projects in a near future and will work to enhance this cooperation and the mobility of researchers from Indonesia and France.
Finally, Antoine Petit visited the ASEAN Secretariat where he met Ekkaphab Phanthavong, the Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Socio-Cultural Community.
